    Entrance

    to Dryderdale Hall

From the road the driveway extends one third of a mile to the Hall, the entrance being guarded by Shull Lodge. The gate, pilllars and 'The Heights' sign are long gone. Click to image enlarge.

    Sourthern Elevation

Jack approaches for the first time...

Being a listed building, little has changed since the movie was shot. The garden's a little tidier though! Click image to enlarge.

    Cowboy's & Indians

Jack hides behind a wall that's no longer there...

... and nor is the Cowboy and Indian wallpaper, long gone during a period of remodelling. Click image to enlarge.

    Drawing Room

Facing east, it captures the sunrise

Thankfully, the decor has changed somewhat, though the view is still magnificent. Click image to enlarge.

    Drawing Room

In reality, this is a large room but the camera angles seem to shrink everything.

There's now another door through to the primary kitchen, right where the African shield is. The ceiling is far more ornate now. Click image to enlarge.

    Hallway

    Now quite different

The staircase was rebuilt following the fire, the balusters now being shaped to complement the Gothic arches in the entrance hall wall. Click image to enlarge.

Again, much the same, apart from the shrubbery. Click image to enlarge.

    near to the upper lake

The uppper paddock is lush grass - great for horses and alpacas now. Click image to enlarge.

    Upper lake

    where Jack dumped the body

The lake is not natural and was constructed for swimming when the Hall was built. It has a cobbled bottom and is fed from the stream with a waterfall as the overflow, back to the stream. The remains of the original diving board can still be seen. Click image to enlarge.

    Southern Elevation

Some of the stonework here is outstanding...

...and the foliage a little more under control. Click to image enlarge.

    The Hall entrance

    and the missing fountain

There is now a fountain, in the middle of a turning circle, that has separate Listed Building status. But where was it back in '71? Click to image enlarge.

    Hall Entrance

    showing the lovely stone windows

The entrance faces north and, consequently, there's a heavy double entrance door to keep out the northerly winds. Click image to enlarge.
